Mr Sandy Smith

 

I came to the school in 2006 as PT Faculty before becoming Depute in 2010. My teaching subjects are Geography and History and have an M.A. Honours in Geography from Aberdeen University. I have been in education since 1987 and have taught in Skye, Dundee, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire at various times throughout my career.

My role includes leadership of effective learning, to ensure pupils experience first class learning and teaching, across the school. Within Learning I oversee the implementation of the school improvement plan on Learning, lead the Learning &Teaching Group and coordinate agreed L&T strategies across the school and lead the AiFL strategies across the school. I also support three Faculties, Maths, Science and Design in the school.

 Currently I am the Year Head for S2 pupils and will stay with this year group as they progress to S4. One of the main aspects of this role is to work with, and support, the appropriate PT Pastoral Care and PT Subjects as the senior link in encouraging positive behaviour management with pupils in the year.

In terms of Professional development it is my responsibility to lead the CPD strategies across the school, linked to effective Learning and Teaching, and to ensure professional development arrangements for teachers are carried out.

My operational responsibilities include being SQA coordinator and overseeing the effective use of the SEEMIS management system in relation to links with the SQA. I Manage aspects of the day to day running of school including cover and supply staff and in addition I coordinate school excursions diary, including trips abroad. Finally I am the link with the school transport providers and I deal with any bus related behaviour referrals and liaise with them and the Public Transport Unit as required.
