At a recent Parent Council Meeting Mr Travis gave a short presentation on some of the main features of A Curriculum for Excellence to parents. Here is a copy of the power point.A Curriculum for Excellence presentation For the Parent Council Feb 2011 A Curriculum for ExcellenceCurriculumCurriculum areas and learning across the curriculumCurriculum for Excellence offers a broad and deep general education from early years through to S3 (typically age 15). It includes a senior phase of education (typically 15-18) which provides opportunities to obtain qualifications and develop skills for learning, life and work. It promotes the ability to learn and to reflect on their own learning, a skill for life that will help young people go onto further study, to secure work and to navigate through life. Staff will work together to plan a child's 'learning journey' from 3 to 18, across different subjects and curricular areas. They will ensure young people can learn in a way that works for them, at a pace they can cope with and with enough challenge to stretch them. Ultimately, the aim is to make our education system fit for the modern world and improve our children's achievements, attainment and life chances; through nurturing successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. Some information on specific curricular areas is below and further information regarding curricular areas and learning across the curriculum is available via http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/understandingthecurriculum/ Education and the Arts, Culture and Creativity: An Action Plan See the recent letter to headteachers and college principals about the progress of Curriculum for Excellence - July 22, 2010 |
