The Meldrum Academy Eco group is run by teachers and all pupils from any year group are welcome to join. The meetings are every Friday lunch time and are held in Mrs Rees-Jenkins’s room in science G207. There is also an eco notice board up in the school too in front of the canteen entrance. Thanks to the eco group, Meldrum Academy has managed to get the green flag. The green flag is recognition of the school’s efforts to be more eco-friendly and is obtained by focusing on 2 areas and the mandatory litter. The areas that we can choose from are; minimising waste, improving school grounds, saving energy, improving health and car sharing. The eco group has chosen to focus on minimising waste in school and improving school grounds for this coming year. The school gets re-assessed every two years to ensure that Meldrum Academy is doing all they can to help the environment and show that we deserve the flag that we have been awarded with. The eco group has done many jobs around the school to help it become more eco-friendly. Previously the eco group have done many different activities such as;
In the future the eco group are planning to make and sell gifts for Christmas made from old materials, replace dead trees and plant more and to organise a clothes swap between S5/6 pupils and a separate clothes swap between staff. For more information contact Mrs Rees-Jenkins or Mrs Rennie in science, or Miss Catton in social subjects. |
