Match against Aberdeen Grammar 2nd December 2009
Meldrum academy recently hosted a rugby match against Aberdeen grammar. Meldrum lost the match but played a very good game and future games look promising to provide more high-paced action. The game wasn’t even slow too start with, meldrum and grammar both getting stuck in to collect the points. Meldrum seen its share of try’s also with a cheeky try from Mark Adam ( isn’t he a football player? ;) followed by a well aimed conversion, if grammar expected an easy game they were to be shocked with another try this time coming from Sean Bremner with a daring dart up the pitch, the speed he runs at! ( another football player? ) followed by another well aimed conversion by Mark Adam.
Captain Stewart Hancock had to leave the pitch after receiving a head injury, but we glued him back together and he is fine now, other than the loss of the much needed brain power, he has made a full recovery. He played a good game though and encouraged his team along the way. Unfortunate early loss.
Marked performance by all the team, including that off Matt McKay ( Snappers ) who could’ve scored a few try’s of his own if it wasn’t for the Refs knowledge of the game, promising runs and showed good strength to try evade Grammars defence. Mckay suffered a dislocated thumb during the game, but he kept going and popped it back into place by himself! Mckay claims to be a footballer but I have my doubts over that!
There was a good crowd turnout aswell from the meldrum academy 6th years along with a few others, some Oldmeldrum spectators also showed up to support the team in its task of defeating Grammar. Final score Meldrum 14 Grammar 28. We wont let the score ruin our spirits though as meldrum look set to accomplish big things in the near future if they can keep up their commitment and style of play. Well done ladz!
