Courses Taught

In S1 and S2 the course is split into the following topics:

• Numbers 1+2
• Shape 1+2
• Introduction to Algebra
• Statistics
• Fractions & Percentage
• Metric Measure
• Formulae

Pupils are assessed after each block of work and information from assessments is used to plan next steps in pupils’ learning.

Mental, problem solving and non-calculator skills are developed continuously during S1 and S2 and pupils are issued with weekly homework.

The main resources used are TJ and Maths in Action textbooks, together with a number of web-based resources.

Our main ICT resource is www.mymaths.co.uk 

(login: meldrum password: fourteen) from which pupils attempt regular online homework.

The S1/2 course is presently being further developed in line with the new Curriculum for Excellence.

In S3 and S4 pupils follow the Standard Grade course.   The course consists of nine blocks of work and pupils are assessed on completion of each block.    Once again results are used to decide upon next steps in learning.

TJ and Maths in Action books are used, while pupils have a homework booklet and regular homework is issued.     Increasingly, online homework is also being issued in S3/4.

In S5 and S6 the courses offered are Intermediate 1 & 2, Higher and Advanced Higher, so we are able to cater for a full range of pupils’ abilities and interests and provide meaningful qualifications for life after school.
