Aims

The aims of the department are based on two main beliefs:

• Maths can be useful.

• Maths can be interesting.

At all times teachers will hopefully provide positive learning experiences for the pupils which capture their interest and enable them to see the relevance of their work to everyday life.

The maths department at Meldrum Academy will endeavour to:

• Teach interesting lessons

• Emphasise how maths impacts on everyday life

• Teach important life skills (eg. Problem solving skills)

• Provide challenge for all pupils

• Help all pupils achieve their potential, regardless of ability

In addition to these mathematical aims, the department will also contribute towards the overall aims of the school.
