Faculty of Modern Languages Bienvenue!! Willkommen!! Bienvenido!!
AIM – To encourage and promote an enjoyment and interest in Modern Foreign Languages. Courses taught: At Meldrum Academy, all S1 and S2 pupils will study French. Throughout these 2 years, pupils will look at themes such as school, personal description, family, hobbies and much more. Each classroom has an Interactive Whiteboard and this allows for a large variety of activities to bring language learning into the 21st century. Software such as Métro Électro and websites such as Linguascope and A tantôt are full of fun-filled games and activities to bring language learning to life. As pupils progress through the school, they will continue with French but will also have the opportunity to pick up Spanish or German. Within the Modern Languages department, we are very lucky to have 2 Foreign Language Assistants who work alongside staff and pupils. This year we are joined by our French Assistant, Katia, and our Spanish Assistant Miguel. Pupils have the opportunity to speak with our assistants in small groups, practising what they have been learning in class, or listening to current songs from France/Spain, or simply learning about the cultural differences that exist betweens our countries. Lunchtime clubs are also on offer in both languages. Our school has been the host for the Induction Day for the Foreign Language Assistants placed in Aberdeenshire for the past few years. This is a day when all the assistants in Aberdeenshire get together to prepare themselves to embark upon life in the Academies across the region! We have also worked with Performing Arts to make links between Languages and Drama. In the picture below, some Higher French pupils put their theatrical skills to the test, combined with French dialogue! The department also offers trips to France, giving the pupils the opportunity to experience what life is like there firsthand. |
